Home exchange and house swap holiday accommodation in Mount Buller, High Country, VIC
I'm semi-retired, my kids are 19 and 17 and mostly not interested in traveling with me - I'm too uncool. I will encourage them to come on house swaps, but with Uni, work, school, it's highly likely it will be just me.

Jamieson
At the bottom of Grey Street in Jamieson, by the Jamieson Caravan Park, the Goulburn River is great for swimming, there is a shallow section for younger children, but the main drawcard of going here is to jump off the rock into the deeper part of the river. There is a grassy bank there where you can watch the exploits, and there are toilets also.
Mirimbah park and playground
At the base of the mountain, by the entry gate to Mt Buller, is the Mirimbah Park, it’s 15km back down the mountain. It’s conveniently at the end of the Delatite Mountain Bike Trail. If you’ve got any Mountain Bikers in your party, it’s a nice way to end the day, there are free barbeques down there also, and proper toilers. The Delatite River is shallow, and very safe for kids. There’s a ton of grass down there, so please feel free to take anything from the hallway out for a spin – there’s chairs, a cricket set, swing ball, frisbee etc. chairs are in the drying cupboard.
Mirimbah
After you pass the entrance gate leaving Mt Buller, about 500m down the road, there is a picnic area signposted to the right. The turning is sharp, and you'll head back onto yourself. Go down and continue past the picnic area. Just before you rejoin the road, keep your eyes out for a small path to the left. Down here is a deep pool suitable for swimming.
Sightseeing
Craigs Hut
There’s a special way to get to Craig’s Hut without having to go down the mountain. It can be done in a 4WD, there’s only 3-4 KM of trail, then you are on the Mt Stirling Circle loop, the circuit is easily done in a 2WD Car. I wouldn’t try it if you have low profile tyres, it’s a bit rocky in places however, the track is wide, so give it a try, and if you don’t like the look of it, you can just turn around and head down the mountain, past the entrance gate, and drive back up to Mt Stirling from on the Mt Stirling Road, which takes you to the Circuit Road which loops around Mt Stirling. To reach the shortcut, head down the mountain a little way until you come to the Corn Hill Track on the right, which is by the lower toboggan slope. Plan for a whole day, Bindaree Falls is a short detour, and quite spectacular.
Tirol Café
On the drive past the Arlberg up to the Summit, you will pass Tirrol, giving good views over Mt Buller and out to Mt Buffalo, this cafe is closed in Summer however there's a large deck with spectacular views, where it’s lovely to picnic, or spend cocktail hour. Your supplies will need to be taken up with you, and please leave them as you’ve found them and bring all of your rubbish back. The barbeque out the back does come off the stand, feel free to borrow to cook up there.
King Basin Road
Put your 4WD to the test and ford some creeks. NE of Mt Buller is the King Basin Road. There are 5 fords along this stretch of river. They are reasonably shallow. This can be done as a detour with the Circuit Road and Craig’s Hut. Make sure you have a full petrol tank and take water and food supplies with you. There are drop toilets at all of the camping grounds you will pass along the way.
Tennis is Free - no bookings required. Court open all summer. First in, gets first serve! In the hallway, there is a tennis bag with racquets and balls. Please feel free to borrow. The tennis is free, and operated on a first come, first served basis. We’ve supplies a lot of balls, please go and relocate any errant ones leaving plenty for those that follow in your footsteps.
Kite Flying
Summit Road
There are kites in the hallway. Go and give it a try. Do not do this if there is even a remote chance of a storm.
