Home exchange and house swap holiday accommodation in Diamond Harbour / Banks Peninsula , Christchurch , Canterbury
We are a semi-retired couple living in Diamond Harbour outside Christchurch in New Zealand. We are both originally English, but we have lived in NZ for the last 14 years. We have daughters and young grandchildren both in Fremantle and Sydney’s Inner West with whom we would like to spend more time. Although we regularly stay with both families for short periods we would like spend longer periods nearby but not living in their homes. We are active, non-smokers, enjoying gardening, outdoors and our lovely home in Diamond Harbour. We are hoping we might find grandparents in Australia who want to see more of their own family who may be living in Christchurch. We are happy to discuss swaps preferably of 2-6 weeks and particularly in periods that coincide with school holidays.

Our two-storey detached, light-filled home was designed for the two of us and is built on quite a steep sloping section. We live mostly in the upper storey at street level, which has an open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen, bathroom, large bedroom with en-suite and a small office/snug. Downstairs there is a large second lounge room with a bed settee, and also a separate double bedroom and another bathroom. Thus only two rooms are permanent bedrooms, but two other rooms can be easily converted. The house has sheltered decking with scenic views on both levels. We are keen gardeners and our 1200m+ sunny section reflects this interest. We have no pets.

Diamond Harbour has lovely views of countryside and sea. It is a hilly location with plenty of local walks. Banks Peninsula is a delightful part of South Island, with plenty of nature to explore, many quiet bays and the town of Akaroa (about an hour’s drive). The walk down to the ferry wharf takes about 20 minutes (longer uphill to get back) or a few minutes to drive. Lyttelton is small port town with a delightfully unique character of it’s own, separated from the city by a road tunnel beneath the Port Hills which themselves offer a lot of outdoor recreational options. Christchurch has become an exciting city following its rebuild since the 2010/2011 earthquakes.
