Home exchange and house swap holiday accommodation in Bicheno, East Coast Tasmania, TAS
My name is Sara and I live on Tasmania's beautiful East Coast with my husband James and two young boys, Jack (3.5yo) and Lenny (1.5yo). We love calling the relaxed beachside town of Bicheno home. If you've heard of Bicheno, it's probably for our penguins, epic fresh seafood, great surf or the Bicheno Blowhole! It's laidback vibes and small community feel is what we love about living here. There's always a quiet beach to call your own and an amazing list of things to do and see. Freycinet National Park is just a short 30min drive south (Wineglass Bay) and the Bay of Fires is just over an hour north. James and I own and operate our own tourism business here in Tassie, so we're more than happy to share our local tips of what to do and see. Travel looks a little different these days as a family of four (our backpacking days may be over!) and the option to house swap has great appeal to see other parts of the country. And to share what we have here in beautiful Bicheno!

Bicheno is a coastal paradise nestled along the east coast of Tasmania, a hidden gem just waiting to be explored. Just a 5 minute walk from local favourite Rice Pebble Beach and a 10min walk from the centre of Bicheno, our house is surrounded by lush bushland and is a great coastal sanctuary. Situated on a large block with well established trees, the double storey house has multiple decks and an outdoor entertaining area to enjoy a cuppa and listen to the kookaburras in the morning. Upstairs is the main house, with 3 bedrooms, a bathroom (with large spa bath), kitchen, lounge and toy room (plenty of toys for the kids!). Keep cosy in the winter with a great wood heater and reverse cycle air conditioner. Downstairs is essentially a one bedroom self contained unit, complete with bathroom, kitchen and small lounge with tv. Ample off street parking is available and we have bikes, a surf board, stand up paddle board, beach chairs, beach umbrella and more for you to enjoy.

Known for its unspoiled beauty, crystal-clear waters, and abundant wildlife, Bicheno offers visitors an idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With a population of just over 1,000 people, the picturesque seaside town has all the services you need including an IGA supermarket, post office, newsagency, service station, hardware store, medical centre, service station, cafes, restaurants and more. Bicheno is a pristine coastal paradise, with white sandy beaches that are home to the most gorgeous little fairy penguins. For the water lovers, explore the picturesque Governor Island Marine Reserve (teeming with diverse marine life and colorful coral reefs) or surf empty waves at one of our many surf beaches located within the town or a short drive away. Hikers can enjoy a wide range of nearby trails including those at the Freycinet National Park (30min) and Douglas Apsley National Park (15min) to name a few. The East Coast of Tasmania has sensational local produce. There are many options a short drive away but within our town you'll find the Lobster Shack for fresh seafood, Waubs Harbour Whisky for whisky matured by the sea and Maclean Bay and Harvey Vin wines.

We had such a fabulous interstate swap with Sara and her family. Sara’s communication allowed us to collect their car from the airport and arrive at their property without a hiccup! Their home was the perfect place to unwind, with a lovely minimalistic vibe. Sara’s home is well suited to families with young children, with toys and fun to keep little people busy. Bicheno provided the perfect base for us to explore some breathtaking locations such as Freycinet, snow at Ben Lomond and the Bay of Fires. We highly recommend a swap with Sara and her family and feel to grateful to have had the opportunity to swap with a lovely family.
