House Swap with us

Couple in our mid forties with two primary school age girls. In the last 5 years we've undertaken a career change to get out of the office from consultancy and business management to teaching and building. We're both practical having built our own house and established our small hobby farm of 50 acres. We love living in, and being involved with, our small coastal community of Cremorne, We enjoy meeting new people and travelling and sharing new experiences with our children. Our girls are easy going and we find on holidays we generally just need a place to call home as a base. They don't necessarily need a fancy bed. In previous swaps they've shared a double and we can always bring our camp blow-up mattresses. We have found that the house swapping experience opens us up to different destinations so happy to consider various destinations. We're very happy to swap within Tasmania as well . We also have family in Norway so keen to explore swaps in that part of the world. Looking forward to hearing from you.

The House

The House

Airy cabin - compact, light and tidy with all the facilities you need for a comfortable short or long term stay. Located on a hobby farm on the edge of coastal village Cremorne. Approximately 1.5kms to the beach, half hour drive to Hobart and 20 minutes to the airport. A cenntral base to explore much of Southern Tasmania, Midlands and East Coast.

This strawbale granny flat/cabin was what we lived in whilst building our actual (strawbale) house This allows us to offer the option of non-simultaneous swap. We've had a number of friends, friends of friends and family come to stay and they have enjoyed its cosy atmosphere. We also rent it out on a formal basis for short stays.

The space has everything you need for a relaxing stay and is most suitable for couples but if you have young children we could also place stretcher beds in the bedroom for them.

The cabin consists of one bedroom (16m2, king size bed) and a kitchen/living room (same size) connected by a bathroom. Appliances/features include microwave, T.V, washing machine, modern gas oven/stove, a desk work space if needed, very comfortable king sized bed and relaxing garden views. We've also bikes and boogie boards for you to borrow.

The cabin is timber but clad in rendered strawbale. It's at the back of our main house. From the garden you overlook Rushy Lagoon which fills with water in the wetter months and has great bird life including black swans, swamp harriers, various ducks, native hens and loads of singing frogs.

We love our small farm. When we first came it was just a big paddock sub-divided from the original farm of the township ; now we've built it up with many trees, vegetable garden and orchard. It varies from beautiful still autumn days to wild spring weather, scorching summers and nippy clear night sky winters.

If you were to come and stay whilst we were not here we'd love it if you could give 5 minutes per day (max) to look after our chooks (self feeder and water trough) and every few days check the cow's water, but we can always arrange for a friend if this doesn't suit.

The things we love about living here

The Location

The Location

We live on the edge of the small coastal village of Cremorne which is located on the South Arm Peninsula 25km from Hobart. Our house is about a 5 minute cycle down to the beach, is located on a small hobby farm with a beautiful bush setting at the back, wet land at the front with Mount Wellington in the background – yet close to the airport, Hobart and many attractions in the south.

Our house swap allows you a mixed get away of rural and coastal yet an easy half hour drive from Hobart and all it offers (as well as airport). Similarly we are in close proximity to many other attractions that bring folk to the Hobart region – wineries, historical Richmond, Hobart sites, MONA. We're about an hours drive from Port Arthur and Bruny Island on the other side.

Within Cremorne itself there is the beach and if the breeze picks up there you can always go around to sheltered Pipe Clay Lagoon which is great for kids, canoeing and fishing. The local bowls club is available for a drink, bowl and chat - and at nearby Lauderdale there is the wonderful Hill Street Grocer which provides you not only with your grocery needs but some great gourmet delights which means you don't have to worry about cooking. There's also a Tavern and Italian Restaurant.

The South Arm Peninsula and surrounding areas are home to a number of beaches (popular with surfers) and artists. Buses are available to a limited level (you can flag it down at our driveway) – they are not many but if you want to go into Hobart for a drink and you make sure you keep an eye on the time they are a great option.

We love Cremorne and its community feel. It's beautiful and friendly. Please get in touch if you would like to know more or have a look on the local website set up by the local community group www.cremorne.tas.au
