The Warwick Sporting complex provides Indoor Basketball courts, Hockey Pitches, Tennis Courts, and Lawn Bowls. The area has also several excellent short bush walk facilities (anything between 20 minutes and an hour walks).
There are two Horse racing courses in Perth (Ascot and Belmont) both have several major festivals throughout the year, and of course we have the famous Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November every year, for those wishing to have a short break to the Melbourne Spring Festival.
Perth
Commonly known as both The remotest capital city in the world, and Australia’s best kept secret, I like to think of it as also the “Gateway to Australia” being the closest Australian major airport to Europe, Middle East, South East Asia, and South Africa.
Perth was first settled in the early to mid 1800’s so is relatively “new” compared to European Cities, however Our Indigenous population have lived here for the last 45,000 years, and both cultures have a lot to offer travellers from other shores.
With Non stop flights to London taking only 16 hours throughout the year, and non stop flights from Paris and Rome during the northern spring to Autumn seasons, brings Perth even closer to family reunions and celebrations.
Our nearest capital city is actually Jakarta in Indonesia, with Adelaide in South Australia being our nearest Australian Capital City (a mere 2-3 day drive away) on the other side of the famous Nullibour Desert.
Perth is located in the South West corner of Western Australia which is Australia’s largest state, being 11 times larger in area than the United Kingdom, and 5 times the size of France.
Perths remoteness has several advantages for its environment and population:
Environmentally we have less damage carried out to our Flora and Fauna due to our small population (3 million people Irving in a land area of 2.6 million square kilometres) as of 2024 official figures, with two million living in Perths metropolitan area.
Due to our remoteness, if we travel (and some of us don’t), we tend to travel for extended periods, to get value for our money. However unlike Europes individual Capital Cities, which are much closer to each other, we don’t take short breaks unless it’s within Western Australia, to some worlds most remotest places.
We are known to have a modern “Mediterranean” climate and diet, with some of the world’s finest produce, Fish, Meat, Vegetables, Indigenous herbs and cuisine.
Our local Indigenous population are part of the Noongar community which is made up of several “clans” providing rich art and cultural aspects.
Perth has a strong Penal Colony History together with periods of “Gold Rush” booms, It has become a hub for multinational resource companies.
Situated at the Northern end of the South West, Perths distance to the world known Margaret River wineries offers an excellent base to explore short 3-4 day breaks, to some of the tallest trees in the world (Pemberton area). There’s a fantastic 6-7 day walk along our coast on the cape to cape guided tours, together with a much longer walk on the “Bibleman track” which goes through some of of the worlds rarest flora and fauna.
Distances from Perth:
Exmouth (gateway to the Ningaloo Barrier Reef) 1250kms
Margaret River (wine and food experiences) 275kms
Esperance 714kms
Kalgoorlie 600kms
Kalbarri 570kms
Adelaide (31/2 hour flight time) 2,694kms road distance.
Darwin ( 31/2 hour flight time)
Broom ( 21/2 hour flight time)
Melbourne (31/2 hours flight time)
Sydney (4 hour flight time)
Brisbane (5 hour flight time)
Bali Indonesia (21/2 hour flight time).
Perths remoteness, ensures we have both good domestic and international flights, providing us with the ability to travel easily for business and recreation.
Bali, is a favourite culture break for us being only 2/12 hours away from the famous Indonesian island, for short 4-7 day breaks, with several cut price airlines offering their services.
