Home exchange and house swap holiday accommodation in Charleroi, North east Victoria, VIC
We are a married couple of fit, active, retired teachers in our late60s. We enjoy travelling and believe that the only authentic way to experience a place is to stay for an extended period as a local. We both enjoy the outdoors, walking, cycling, skiing and Neil loves to surf. We welcome the opportunity to experience any part of Australia or the world. As we are retired we can be quite flexible to fit in with time frame of our swapping partners.

We own a 50 acre property in the beautiful north east of Victoria. Our house is a 30 year old stone place that we built. It is an open plan with lots of timber walls and beams and a large fireplace. There are large windows in every room to take advantage of the lovely views down the valley and a wide verandah on all sides. It is spacious and very suitable for families but a couple looking for tranquility would also be happy here. We have a modern washing machine, dishwasher, microwave but heating and most cooking is wood fuelled. Wood will be provided. There is internet access and good mobile coverage. We have a fairly maintenance free garden, fruit trees and a vegetable garden where you may help yourself to whatever vegetables and fruit are in season. We have a few chooks (minimal care required) so there are fresh eggs too. There is lots of space outside for playing and parking and there is a dam suitable for swimming in the summer.

This area is rich in scenery, history, food and wine growing, lakes and mountains. Our neigbours are friendly and helpful and predominently farming families. You would need a car because there is no public transport. Closest large town is Albury-Wodonga, 30 minutes drive, population about 26,000 but there are smaller towns at Tallangatta (20 minutes), Kiewa (15 minutes). At Albury there is an airport and train and bus links to Melbourne, Sydney and many large towns. We are less than two hours from the Victorian Alps, beautiful in summer and winter. The ski resorts of Falls Creek is 90 minutes away and Hotham 2 hours. Water sports and fishing can be enjoyed in Lake Hume (20minutes) and Lake Dartmouth (30 minutes) and there are many rivers and streams. A row boat is available for your use. Cyclists would enjoy the scenic Rail Trails in area and there are walking opportunities to cater for all levels of fitness. The whole of this region is celebrated for its food and wine tasting opportunities and we are close to many historic sites such as the former gold mining towns of Beechworth and Yackandandah. Enjoy the beautiful, tranquil surrounds and the delights (historic towns, great scenery, alpine areas, wineries) that this area has to offer.
