House Swap with us

We are a couple in our mid 60s and have moved into the next phase of life, having retired from full time employment. Ann is a Social Worker (mental health) and Terence is a Secondary Teacher (design and technology) and although we are still intensely interested in our respective fields, we are focusing on lots of other life passions. We really enjoy travelling both within Australia and all regions of our world. We have been very active travellers for over four decades and we have been experimenting with home exchanges in both Australia and internationally for several years now. Our interests are wide - art galleries, music events, eating and cooking great food and learning about new cultures, history, architecture, gardens. We are adventurous in visiting all types of natural environments - from deserts to the coast, mountains and rivers. We like the challenge of exploring new cities, smaller towns and rural communities. The House

The House

Edited October 2022

Our home is a 2 bedroom architect designed house in the inner northern suburb of Brunswick. We are less than 5km from the Melbourne CBD. The house is open plan, designed for light with north facing windows and skylights. There is a very large lounge room, a study /office zone and a spacious kitchen and dining room area. The main bedroom has an en suite and the second bedroom has easy access to the main bathroom. We have small, very attractive native gardens which are low maintenance, in the front and rear of the house, a large deck at the back which is also set up for outdoor entertaining with BBQ facilities.

There is a car port at the front of the house and there is free, accessible street parking at the front of the house. Our house has a relaxing and calming ambience, with quality solid timber crafted furniture, surrounded by the greenery of the gardens, with minimal street noise in a friendly neighbourhood.

The things we love about living here

  • We love living in Brunswick as it is one of the most vibrant and dynamic inner suburbs of Melbourne.
  • There are many different and diverse communities, the suburb is intensely multicultural and is home to artists, academics and talented people of all kinds.
  • The street art around Brunswick is exceptional and always changing. You would never run out of trying new and different restaurants, cafes and bars which are within walking distance - from all corners of the world.
  • Our home is surrounded by public gardens - one at the end of our street (Temple Park), plus Princes Park, the Brickworks (Gilpin Park), Royal Park and Melbourne Zoo which are all within easy walking distance. We can even hear the sounds of lions and monkeys when it is quiet or there is a light breeze from the south... !! There is also a great public gym and swimming pool (Brunswick Baths) less than 1 km from us, as well a quality municipal library and a 9 hole golf course (Royal Park).
  • The immediate Sydney Road retail area offers numerous 'pop up' outlets, unique shopping opportunities and venues featuring live music, bars and restaurants. The local Union Hotel around the corner from the house has quality meals and free bands playing each Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 5pm. There are great breakfast and lunch cafes within walking distance. We are within easy access to inner urban cinemas, the major art galleries and performing arts centres and the museum in the CBD, sporting venues (eg MCG) and lots of other tourist attractions of Melbourne (eg the beautiful Botanical Gardens).

Very considerate and charming guests, Terry and Ann left my property in excellent order, even setting the wood fire ready to keep me warm on my return home. Their communication beforehand and over their stay here was detailed and delightfully friendly. A return visit any time they want to come to Adelaide will be most welcome.

JeanC from Scott Creek SA (Jul 2022)

Terry and Ann were a perfect couple to swap with us. Their home is a great modern design, with a lovely north facing rear garden, lots of beautiful artworks and artefacts from their travels and it is just a really peaceful and interesting home. It is well located for local shops and cafes. Communication was excellent and gave us confidence in the swap, and they looked after our home and our two cats very well. Would love to swap with them again one day. We certainly highly endorse Terry and Ann as great and trustworthy people to swap your home with.

Nick from Point Piper NSW (Jan 2020)

Terry & Ann , delighted that you could stay with us it's just a pity that you couldn't stay longer. We are really looking forward to our exchange and staying in your house in Brunswick it looks fabulous. Take care and thank you Paul & Claire

Paul & Claire from Strangford Down Ireland (Jul 2019)

A seamless similtaneous house swap, coastal country for inner city. We could not have asked for a better swap. Terry and Anne were generous owners, we felt privileged to stay in their lovely home. It was quiet but close to the action, Sydney Rd, Melbourne Zoo and easy access to the city. Their beautiful city abode was comfortable, light filled and private, with everything we required for a relaxing stay. Terry and Anne, left our home absolutely immaculate. We thank them and hope we can do it again one day!
