Home exchange and house swap holiday accommodation in Cleveland, Moreton Bay, QLD
Dream, laugh, live and keep exploring. We are 75 years of age and started our working lives as teachers. Heather has just retired from her small business as an accounting consultant while Siggy is retired (business manager). We have 2 grown up children and 3 grand children. Our daughter and son and their families live near Brisbane. We love to travel, both locally and abroad, including in a motorhome which we have done many times. We are very interested therefore in also considering swapping our house for a motorhome at any time. We visited central Europe in 2009 to catch up with Siggy's relatives in Poland. We then visited England, Scotland and Ireland in 2011 to explore Heather's ancestry. In 2013 we spent a lovely 4 months ambling around the Mediterranean sea visiting countries as far as Croatia, Greece and Turkey. In 2015 we spent a few months touring Spain/Portugal, the Baltic/Scandinavian countries and finished our trip experiencing Iceland. In late 2016 we toured around south west Canada (Vancouver Island and the Rockies) using house swaps and completed our vacation with a couple of weeks house swapping In Hawaii. In 2017 we spent a month on a house swap near Geneva Switzerland and than a week house swapping in Shanghai, China. In 2018 we swapped houses in UK and Sweden and the traveled around far easter European countries in 2019. In 2022 we spent 4 weeks in central Italy and followed up this year with multiple swaps over a 4 month period in England, France, Spain Germany, Austria and Wales. We have exchanged our house many times with both overseas and local families and are always open to offers from anywhere in Australia (especially up north such as Cairns or Broome and also South Australia) and overseas including USA and NZ. Please tempt us with your offer - we will always entertain new ideas. If you have a proposition please make contact and we will always reply. We built our house in Cleveland recently to enjoy the closeness to Moreton Bay and to be close to shops and other services in our later life. Siggy still plays walking football and rides his bike while Heather loves to read a good book and go swimming. Siggy speaks a little German and understands Polish.

Our new custom built home is located close to Moreton Bay coast. The house has been designed to deliberately make use of coastal air flow. The extra large windows all throughout the house, including louvers for air movement, allow sunlight to enter and frame lovely private views of our small garden surrounds. Our home was built specifically for our retirement - a relaxing quiet retreat. The house is on one level with no stairs, polished concrete floors throughout and wide door openings that allow easy wheelchair access. It has two generous double bedrooms, each with their own bathroom/en-suite. The rest of the house consists of a very large, open plan kitchen, dining area, family relaxing area/lounge space. We also have a separate office area (with computer and fast broadband). A large covered northern facing deck and another smaller western facing deck off the living area allow us to regularly dine and relax outside. We have a large 2 car garage including a laundry area. Front right of the house, but entirely separate from it, is a private fully self contained apartment with its own entry - occupied by long term renter.
We take great pride in our abode and we would show the same devoted care for your home. Please note: we are more than happy to swap our house for a motorhome. We are experienced motorhomers having spent almost 3 years in total traveling around Europe in a motorhome over the past 12 years.

Cleveland is an area of natural beauty. Our house is located a couple of blocks away from Moreton Bay with its many island attractions - such as St Helena, Stradbroke and Moreton. These sand islands are accessible via ferries and tour boats that can be hired from the many local marinas. Parts of the coastal precinct around Cleveland are designated as rare or unique wetlands where fish and aquatic plants and animals thrive. The RAMSAR status - Convention on Wetlands of International Importance - is considered vital for conserving biological diversity. There are only a few areas like this in the world. Further afield there is Fraser Island, located to the north of Brisbane - the largest sand island in the world. As well as active water sports like kayaking and sailing there are also a maze of bike and walking paths to keep you occupied - for those who want more exercise or just a lazy morning or evening stroll along the waterside. To the south, further down the coast, we can boast some of the best surf beaches in Australia (and the world). Whale watching is also a favourite past-time from late July to early October (get up and personal in a tour boat). The Gold Coast is renowned for the many exhilarating "worlds" that draw families and the young at heart to experience thrill rides on water, in the air or in simulation booths. There is lots to chose from - WaterWorld, WetNwild, Seaworld, MovieWorld to name a couple. Book online before you get there. Check out Visit Redlands Coast on Google. Some local attractions include:
* Stradbroke Island 'Straddie' - Catch the ferry across to visit the world's second largest sand island. See the pristine beaches, crystal clear ocean waters and natural, freshwater lakes.
* Sirromet Winery - Sample wine from the cellar door or relax and taste some local cuisine. *Raby Bay Marina - Have breakfast, lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants that line the harbourside
* Redlands Track Park- 25kms of trails for bush walking, mountain biking, horse riding, trail running and wildlife spotting.
* Venman Bushland National Park: Walk through the bush to spot koalas, wallabies and other native wildlife.
* Redlands IndigiScapes Centre: Explore bushland, learn about the local Indigenous people or enjoy Australian bush tucker flavours at the cafe.
* Whale watching: Watch the migration of the humpback whale from the safety of the shore or book a sea-tour.
* Water sports: Boating, kayaking, fishing, stand up paddle boarding, swimming

Brisbane City attractions: Brisbane city is certainly worth a visit. Its been rated as one of the world's most liveable cities. Southbank, Mt Cootha, Botanical Gardens and a ferry ride or cruise up and down the Brisbane River past the imposing CBD on a CityCat should be on anyone's itinerary. For those more adventuresome try the Story Bridge Climb. If you are interested in wild life then don't miss Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.
Getting around Redlands and Brisbane:
Train: 10 minute walk to the local railway station; trains run directly into Brisbane.
Vehicle: 45 minute drive to Brisbane City Centre; 40 minute drive to Brisbane airport; 45 minute drive to Gold Coast.
Bike: On and off road commuter and recreational cycle paths.
Walk: Plenty of local walking paths. Because we have sea, sand, forest and mountains all around there are many varied recreational activities to choose from including surfing, swimming, diving, boating, 4 wheel driving, bush walking or just lazing around and enjoying our mild climate. Try inland to see our nature parks in all their wonderful glory. There are many local restaurants to choose from and lots of places to enjoy a picnic especially on the various points of land that jut out into the bay very close to our place - Cleveland Point, Wellington Point, Victoria Point etc. A trip out to St Helena Island with its fascinating but sordid penal colony past is a real highlight - actors play act out how the place functioned in its heyday.
The weather here in Cleveland can get quite warm and humid in summer (28-35 degrees day time) while the winters are quite mild. Daytime winter temperatures of 21-25 degrees are common. Most of our rain falls in summer, however, because of the warm temperature, a rainy day can be very pleasant. Our house makes use of the sun in winter and has good air flow in summer. This helps us keep cool in summer but there are also fans in each room and central air conditioning if the temperature becomes too oppressive.
