The things we love about living here

  • Easy public transport to exciting Fremantle and Perth, the vibrant capital of Western Australia. The park opposite the house has untouched natural bushland surrounding open grassed areas to contemplate the good life. Fremantle has many heritage buildings with the University of Notre Dame in amongst the buildings of the West End. The famous cappuchino strip is vibrant, beautiful and bizarre. The world acclaimed Fremantle markets is full of fresh produce, culinary delights and gifts for everyone. At the weekends circus entertainers and buskers delight the onlookers with their talents and comedy.Ten minutes away is the superb South beach and Coogee beach with its wonderful swimming bays and delightful cafes. Bathers beach in Fremantle is amongst the cafes, seafood restuarants and delightful bars. Twenty minutes up the coast takes you to a whole row of iconic beaches from Port Beach to Cottlesloe beach. Further up the coast liberated nudists flock to Swanbourne beach. There are regular buses outside the house or at the end of the street taking you into Fremantle or frequent trains to Perth.
  • The Bibbulmun Track, famous amongst hikers starts at Kalamunda in the hills to the east of the metro area and is less than an hours drive from us. This track goes through the beautiful Jarrah forrests and is a wonderful chance to get back to nature. Perth itself is an amazing collection of art galleries, restaurants and is home to the incredible Kings Park. This overlooks the fabulous Swan River which flows through Northam (where the Avon Descent begins) all the way through Perth to the Indian Ocean at Fremantle. There are all day boat trips from Fremantle to Perth and beyond to the wineries. We love going by ferry across the Swan River to South Perth zoo with its beautiful gardens and wonderful wildlife. If you wished to spend a day or two Rottnest Island. It is an hour away by fast ferry where you can cycle, walk or catch the bus (the only motor vehicle). The snorkeling is wonderful in the crystal clear water and we have a cheeky little animal called a quoka. A quoka is a knee high marsupial with the most endearing face. They have plenty to eat but really appreciate a drop of fresh water from your bottle. A half hour drive south will take you to Penguin Island where you can get the shuttle ferry to see the fairy penguins in their natural habitat.

The Location

The Location

Just 8 km to the vibrant city of Fremantle with weekend markets, heritage buildings, the famous fishing boat harbour and buskers galore. Opposite our house is a pocket of natural bushland with old tuart trees and abundant grass trees. A little further away is Perth the capital city of Western Australia. There are interesting boat trips from Fremantle up the beautiful Swan to Perth or further up stream to the vineyards. Perth has an area called Northbridge where there are countless restaurants and entertainment centres. From Fremantle there is the ferry to Rottnest Island where the snorkelling is superb; or you can ride your bike around the car free island. You are not supposed to feed the quokas (small native marsupials) but they love a drink from your water bottle. You can take a short drive south of Fremantle and visit the Fairy penguins and sea lions at Penguin island and witness the rare Pelican breeding colony.

We had an enjoyable stay in Alison and Graeme's comfortable home. It was ideally located for exploring the Fremantle and Perth region. Public transport was easy to use and the 501 bus stopped outside the house to take you into Fremantle. We also enjoyed walking in the park across the road. Alison was very helpful and accommodating. All in all a very successful house swap.

I spent Easter weekend at Alison and Graham's home near Fremantle. Their house is very clean and comfortable and only a 10 minute drive to South Beach and the great Fremantle coffee shops, tourist spots and markets. This was my first house swap but the whole process went very well, with both us sorting out details really easily. Alison and Graham looked after my place very well and even put the bins out for me:-) I highly recommend them if you want a responsible and very pleasant couple to swap homes with you. I would be very happy to swap with them again any time they feel like a tree change:-)

Ailsa from Stoneville WA (Apr 2021)

Alison and Graham's home was the ideal location for our Fremantle holiday. The bus stop was next door to their home. The bus route went along the cappuchino strip and Fremantle markets onto the Fremantle train and bus station. From there we caught the free buses to visit museums/beaches/shopping. The Rottness Island cruise departures are near the station too. There is so much to see in Fremantle. The natural bushland park opposite the house was great for a morning or evening walk. The house was clean and tidy and we had our own bathroom. We really enjoyed meeting Alison and Graham prior to our exchange.
